چکیده
INTRODUCTION Arsenic is a chemical element that has the symbol As. Arsenic is widely distributed in nature and is associated with the ores of metals such as gold, lead, and copper. Arsenic also enters the environment through human activities, as arsenic is often used in pesticides, dyes, and chemical weapons. The arsenic compound chromated copper arsenate (CCA) has also been used as a wood preservative. At high doses, arsenic is a poison to humans and other animals which can cause death, and at lower doses over a longer time, it can also cause cancer. Arsenic contamination of soil and water is thus an environmental health issue.

Impact of Fugitive Dust Emission from Bauxite Crushing Industry on Soil Contamination (Case Study: Jajarm Alumina Factory)
Introduction: The origination of dust is often due to the wind erosion process. However dust emissions are sometimes the result of industrial activity during the production process, which is called industrial dust. One of these industries is rock crushing whose raw material is transferred from the mines to the factory. During the process of crushing, smaller pieces are eventually converted. The...
متن کاملPhytofiltration of arsenic from drinking water using arsenic-hyperaccumulating ferns.
Arsenic contamination of drinking water poses serious health risks to millions of people worldwide. Current technologies used to clean arsenic-contaminated water have significant drawbacks, such as high cost and generation of large volumes of toxic waste. In this study, we investigated the potential of using recently identified arsenic-hyperaccumulating ferns to remove arsenic from drinking wat...

Background and Objectives: Arsenic contamination is of great environmental concern due to its toxic effects as a carcinogen. In order to assess soil arsenic contamination and its distribution patterns, surface soil samples collected from the urban areas of Arak were analyzed. Materials and Methods: Totally, 62 surface soil samples were collected from depth of 0–20 cm of different locations incl...
متن کاملEffects of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Levels, and Frond-harvesting on Absorption, Translocation and Accumulation of Arsenic by Chinese Brake Fern (pteris Vittata L.)
This hydroponic experiment was conducted to determine the effects of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) levels and frond-harvesting on the effectiveness of arsenic (As)hyperaccumulator Chinese brake fern (Pteris vittata L.) to remove As from contaminated groundwater collected from south Florida. Three-month old ferns were grown in 38-L plastic tanks (two ferns per tank) containing 30-L of As-conta...
متن کاملPhytoextraction by arsenic hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata L. from six arsenic-contaminated soils: Repeated harvests and arsenic redistribution.
This greenhouse experiment evaluated arsenic removal by Pteris vittata and its effects on arsenic redistribution in soils. P. vittata grew in six arsenic-contaminated soils and its fronds were harvested and analyzed for arsenic in October, 2003, April, 2004, and October, 2004. The soil arsenic was separated into five fractions via sequential extraction. The ferns grew well and took up arsenic f...
